Anti-doping case against four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome dropped

British road racing cyclist Chris Froome has been cleared of wrongdoing in his 'anti-doping' case which was dropped by cycling world's governing body.

The Union Cycliste International (UCI) made the announcement just days before the 105th Tour de France starting on July 7.

Froome had apparently tested positive for excessive levels of the asthma drug Salbutamol following a urine sample last year.

Sports scientist, Dr Ross Tucker, says the decision to drop the case undermines public confidence in anti-doping regulations.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has shown that it cannot defend its own drug policies, he adds.

Today was a very disillusioning day for anti-doping.

What today does is that it takes away our ability to even trust the testing process.

The robust legal system that can defend the testing does not exist for Salbutamol and other drugs.
