[LISTEN] 'The latest SASSA payment debacle is a middle finger to the poor'

A glitch in the system has left many SASSA grant recipients not able to access their money.

Breakfast Show host Bongani Bingwa says this shows the incompetence of the South African Social Security Agency in not anticipating it might have issues with taking on the payment system.

Once again this is a middle finger to the poorest of the poor. The idea of confused and hungry grannies standing in endless queues crying and unsure about why they are not getting the only source of income has been heartbreaking.

Bongani Bingwa, Breakfast Show host

Many working South Africans know what it's like to be on their last legs in the days just before payday. What must it be like for those who depend on social grants?

Bongani Bingwa, Breakfast Show host

To be fair SASSA has apologized and promised to resolve the issue. Except - apologies don't put bread on the table. In this cold snap - the harshest weather conditions you are likely to experience all year, as food and petrol prices rise, the officials saying all the nice things about _the poorest of the poor _are sleeping in warm beds with full bellies and saying sorry about glitches in a system and speeding up the network.
