SACP will be backing ANC in next year's elections - report

The South African Communist Party has confirmed that it will be campaigning for the African National Congress (ANC) in next year's elections, despite some past differences.

The Alliance Political Council briefed the media, on Tuesday, on the outcomes of its meetings convened from 8 July.

The council comprises ANC, National Office Bearers, the SACP, Cosatu, and Sanco.

Eyewitness News reporter Clement Manyathela has more on the outcomes of the meeting.

They have just confirmed that as an alliance they are all going to help the African National Congress campaign for the 2019 elections. There is a task team that is going to be set up to look at the reconfiguration of the alliance.

The SACP seems to want the grouping as it is to be the centre of power, where as a group they decide on the deployment to government and policy decisions, and that is not only the responsibility of the ANC.
