Woolworths has released a statement announcing the recall of a Rice Mix product for fear of contamination with the Listeria bacteria.
In a statement the retailier said that “Food safety is of critical importance to Woolworths and we take all issues regarding the production of our food extremely seriously”.
The company say the recall is a precautionary and voluntary measure by the company, and it will refund all products in full.
Legal and Compliance Technologist for Woolworths Food, Karin Carstensen, says anyone who still has the product in their freezer, whether opened or not, are welcome to return it to their stores.
Because this product contains sweetcorn from Hungary, all the companies that produce have been obliged to recall it as instructed by the European Union.— Karin Carstensen, Legal and Compliance Technologist for Woolworths Food
We have removed all the products from our shelves as of Tuesday afternoon. It is a single product that is affected which is a savoury rice none of our other products including frozen vegetables are affected.— Karin Carstensen, Legal and Compliance Technologist for Woolworths Food
Carstensen says they will continue working with the Belgian supplier that produces this product. The recall is due to an ingredient that's from Hungary, the corn in the savoury rice and not the whole production.
