South Africa remains one of the most unequal countries in the world. This is according to the 2017/18 Equality Report released by SA Human Rights Commission on Thursday.
Senior Researcher at the South African Human Rights Commission, Dr Shanelle Van De Berg explains inequality as unfair discrimination between groups of people based on gender, race, religion among other things.
She says this report focused on trying to determine whether government policy of radical socio-economic transformation can address the economic inequality in the country.

Van de Berg says they have identified the three key drivers of radical transformation, which are the right to equality and the concept of affirmative action within the right, further education and equitable access to land.
She also spoke about employment equity which says the labour market is still dominated by white males predominantly at senior management level.

In that concept of the economy we see a new pattern of equality emerging of white women holding a mere 4% of directorship but white males still exceed black ownership of both the economy and labour market.— Dr Shanelle Van De Berg, Senior Researcher at HRC
This leaves us to conclude that the private sector is not sufficiently contributing to the project of transformation generally...— Dr Shanelle Van De Berg, Senior Researcher at HRC
