Holomisa: No need to hide fact that DA-led coalition in NMB isn't working

UDM leader Bantu Holomisa says that while the DA-led coalition in Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) is still intact, there is a mess that urgently needs to be fixed.

He has confirmed that there have been budget disputes within the DA-led coalition in NMB.

Holomisa says his party and other political parties in the municipality have not agreed with DA's budget proposals.

This despite efforts by DA leader Mmusi Maimane to present a united front.

Maimane has denied that the coalition partnership is falling apart, despite numerous challenges with passing budgets and motions of no confidence in DA mayors.

On Wednesday, the DA leader held a briefing together with the leaders of other parties on the recently passed budgets in the metros they govern.

Holomisa did not attend the briefing.

He says the NMB budget is skewed in favour of developed suburbs.

Holomisa adds that the DA must apologise for false allegations against UDM councillor Mongameli Bobani made in the past.

The truth of the matter is that UDM and other political parties in Port Elizabeth could not agree with the DA's proposal for the budget.

There was no consultation with the people, specifically in the township areas and northern areas.

The UDM was one of the parties which did not support the budget process in Nelson Mandela Bay, citing that 80% of the budget goes to developed suburbs. The township areas and northern areas had to share 20%.

We are not going to be supporting budgets that are skewed in favour of second population.

We are still working well with Herman Mashaba in Gauteng, but in Port Elizabeth it is not working. There is no need to hide that.
