The Phalaborwa mining company has confirmed that all workers who were trapped underground have been accounted for.

Workers died after a fire broke out at the mine on Sunday.

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union Amcu leader Joseph Mathunjwa says the news of the deaths is really sad and he would like to convey his condolences to the families.

Amcu has been advocating for the amendment of the Mine Health and Safety Act and we have not seen any traction on our clarion call on this.
