Competition Commission denies allegations of corruption
Commissioner at Competition Commission, Tembinkosi Bonakele has denied allegations of corruption that have been leveled against the institution.
DA MP and economic development spokesman Michael Cardo last week wrote to Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel requesting the establishment of a commission of inquiry.
The Financial Mail reported that the commission had been accused of lying to obtain search warrants, failing to abide by its own rules, and ignoring legal precedent in the high-stakes foreign exchange case against 23 banks.
Bonakele says the DA has issues against the two cases they are pursuing against the banks as well as the fats and oil industry.
We are having a dispute with Standard Bank about when do we disclose our records to them. But we are saying this is not the time. There is a time and place for that.Tembinkosi Bonakele, Commissioner at Competition Commission
I am quite surprised why the DA is entering the fray because I don't think Standard Bank asked the DA to help them.Tembinkosi Bonakele, Commissioner at Competition Commission
I think the DA is very unhappy with the cases we are pursuing and how we are pursuing them.Tembinkosi Bonakele, Commissioner at Competition Commission
