These visits to the mines are becoming frequent, where the minister speaks to the mine management and institutes an investigation while calling on companies to improve their health and safety issues.

But, are we seeing any changes or are we simply continuing to see an increase in deaths?

Speaking to Clement Manyathela on The Midday Report, EWN reporter Kgomotso Modise says the minister is inside having conversations with the management.

Engaging them in the processes that have now started in terms of an official inquiry and an investigation into what happened.

He is also going to be speaking to Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) management who were here this morning wanting answers.

So a delegation from Amcu has gone inside to engage the minister just on what they know. Of course, that we understand that at least four of the miners that died were affiliated with Amcu.

Chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee on mineral resources Sahlulele Luzipho also joined the conversation and extended his condolences to the families involved.

When a situation of this nature arises... it's going to be successful only if there is co-operation.
