Chores are the glue of consistency in family life – Nikki Bush, parenting expert

In the parenting feature, creative parenting expert Nikki Bush chats about the importance of chores, and points out some housework that’s on a need to know basis for kids.

Bush says that chores are very consistent in every household.

She adds that chores are a way of creating predictability in a child’s life.

Bush says that parents are so busy and often try to find the glue in their family life.

Parents are so busy today that they tend to do the chores for their children all by themselves, because they don’t want to engage children in something that’s going to take more time and make more mess.

Parents are giving away so many emotional connection opportunities, and life skills by not involving their kids in chores says the parenting expert.

Bush adds that children under the age of 12 are watching their parents all the time.

She says that they really want to be like their parents, and they want to do what they do very well.

We also have to be very wary of the fact that if we keep doing for our children, ultimately our children will not do for themselves.
