In the market for a cheap second-hand car?
Consumer journalist, Wendy Knowler recommends against private sales unless you know the person very well.
For good reason, she explains – "because its a private sale, it is not covered by the Consumer Protection Act" which offers buyers a 6-month warranty of quality.
This means, if anything should go wrong with the vehicle, whether second-hand or new – by law, the car dealership is required to repair it.
She says, while you do have the option of pursuing the legal route, it is takes up a lot time and, is quite costly.

Recently, after saving up a substantial amount of money to purchase a decent second-hand vehicle, Deo arrived home after a long shift at work. Three weeks later, Deo was picked up by police with a warrant of arrest for the car at Long Beach Mall.

Thankfully, Deo's story has a happy ending.
When the co-owners of Cafe Roux, Lindy and Paul Green heard about Deo's heartbreaking story, they started a crowdfunding account and, raised funds to help him purchase a new car.
