#UniteBehind condemns the recent arson attack on Metrorail trains

Activist group Unite Behind has speculated as to the possible motives behind recent arson attacks on Metrorail trains.

It's highlighted a possible link to competition from the taxi industry.

A Metrorail train carriage caught fire at Cape Town station on Saturday causing an estimated R30 million of damage.

It's the fifth train fire in Cape Town in the last two months, crippling an already strained infrastructure.

Bruce Baigrie, an activist from Unite Behind

What we are putting out there is that the previous acting CEO of Prasa was kidnapped and most recently, the Prasa board chair was kidnapped.

We know that there is definitely moves to fight back gains against state capture at the organisation.

Bruce Baigrie, an activist from Unite Behind

We feel that it is very likely that a lot of these arson attacks are from that same networks trying to destabilise the agency.

Bruce Baigrie, an activist from Unite Behind

Baigrie claims an investigation by the group revealed that state capture wasn't just at the board level, but right down to security personnel on the platforms and stations.
