Zuma’s new legal team has brought a fresh application, indicating they intend filing papers for a permanent stay of prosecution.

The case against Jacob Zuma has been postponed to 30 November.

The former president appeared in the the Pietermaritzburg High Court where he is facing charges of corruption, fraud, money-laundering and racketeering related to alleged bribes during the arms deal.

His new legal team has brought a fresh application, indicating they intend filing papers for a permanent stay of prosecution. They have been ordered to file these by mid-November.

Zuma's new legal team, lead by senior counsel Mike Hellens, has argued that they need more than four weeks to go through the matter . The State however, is arguing that his matter has been ventilated enough in the court and so this new team should be ready within the next four weeks.

Ultimately the judge ruled that Zuma's legal team should be given at least three months to go through the relevant documentation, so that when they do file for the permanent stay of prosecution then all the matters will be ventilated and there is not any possible applications that are brought forward, and eventually the trial can get underway.

Meanwhile Zuma's supporters gathered outside the court on Friday, with some insisting that the case is politically motivated.

Eyewitness News reporter Babalwa Ndenze is there.

Just a few minutes ago Andle Mngxitama of the BLF said President Jacob Zuma is one up against white monopoly capital.

Sihle Zikalala also took to the stage but his message was very simple - calling all ANC members to come together and mobolise for elections next year.
