[WATCH] French woman slapped in street by catcaller after calling him out

A French student told a man to shut up after he made degrading comments and sexual noises at her as they walked passed each other outside a cafe.

He first threw an ashtray at her which narrowly missed her. Then he walked back and insulted her. She stood her ground confronting him and so he slapped her hard in the face. The patrons at the outdoor cafe witnessed the attack and reacted in shock leaping to help but he walked off.

22-year-old architecture student Marie Laguerre left but came back to find the CCTV which she has shared in her effort to catch the perpetrator. The video has gone viral viewed more than a million times.

This has happened at a time when the French government is pushing to impose on-the-spot-fines for harassment on the street. Offenders will have to pay between 70 and 750 euros set to complete its passage through parliament this week.
