Details lacking in govt's draft policy on school pregnancy - Equal Education

Lobby group Equal Education (EE) has criticised government's proposed plans to deal with teenage pregnancy in schools.

EE says the Department of Basic Education’s (DBE) draft policy on the Prevention and Management of Learner Pregnancy in Schools is highly flawed.

Nurina Ally, of the EE Law Centre, explains that the policy will play an important role in setting out the sexual education and health services provided to learners.

Ally says the draft policy has major gaps in its current guise, particularly in terms of its framework and implementation.

She adds that the policy requires more detail in terms of school protocols.

The policy provides a general and vague framework.
