Fort Hare students demand a visit from Minister Pandor to resolve strike

The students of Fort Hare University in the Eastern Cape have not yet written the second-semester exams which were scheduled to start on July 16 due to a strike that's in its seventh week.

Workers affiliated to Nehawu are demanding 8% wage increase while the university is offering 7.5%.

Both parties are refusing to budge on their offers.

EWN reporter Monique Mortlock says the Student Representative Council is currently meeting to address the issues at hand, demanding the strike must end and exams commence.

The statement from the SRC reads: We want the minister of higher education to respond to our call and come to address the current situation. The university is gambling with our future we demand to write our exams and lastly, we want the strike to be resolved.
