[LISTEN] Police to investigate Malema's alleged rifle shooting incident

AfriForum has laid criminal charges against Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema for allegedly discharging a firearm in a built-up area.

Cellphone footage of Malema firing what appears to be an assault rifle at a rally in East London, has emerged on social media.

According to reports, the EFF insist the device was not a real firearm.

National Police spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo confirms a case has been opened.

You cannot look at anything on face value, we have to ensure that we conduct the necessary investigation and get all the evidence...

In respect to this case, where there is an allegation that an individual discharged a firearm at a stadium just outside East London, that information was brought to our attention. As a state we opened a case of discharging a firearm in a public place.
