Solidarity accepts Eskom's 7.5% wage offfer

Trade union Solidarity has announced it has accepted Eskom’s wage offer of a 7.5% increase after weeks of negotiations and industrial action.

The trade union has also agreed on a further 7% wage hike for the next two years and an increase on housing and a once off payment of R5,000.

Solidarity is the only union to reach an agreement.

The union's spokesperson Dirk Hermann says accepting the offer was the best thing to do.

We think it is a fair offer if you look at the circumstances. At some stage one must balance the interests of the country, Eskom and the interest of your members.

Meanwhile the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) chief negotiator Helen Diatiile says they will continue deliberations with its workers.

At the moment it is safe to say we are at the point where we can go to members and say we don't think we can stretch more than we have successfully but we will still test.... we know members of NUM and Numsa are very reasonable, they will appreciate that.
