Eskom: Risk of rotational load shedding might increase later on Monday

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says there's a low risk of load shedding during the day but there is a probability for this evening.

Phasiwe says they have begun with the recovery plan which will take about 30 days, during which some of the units will be taken offline for regular maintenance.

The inspection will continue and if possible some of the units will be taken offline just to make sure that everything is hunky dory.

The likelihood of load-shedding is around 12 pm, that's when many South Africans start cooking and some use heaters, which puts pressure on the system. But we are monitoring the system and so far we haven't had load shedding for five days.

Phasiwe says most of the Eskom workers have returned to work after a brief stay away over wage negotiations. He says this has helped a lot in stabilising the power system.

Although the other two unions are still consulting their members on the 7.5% wage increase offer, Solidarity union said on Thursday it had accepted the offer.

Phaswane says they are optimistic that this latest offer will bring the negotiations to the end as they've dragging for quite some time now.
