The African National Congress (ANC) wants prices of data to fall by October.
The ruling party wants the government to give a policy directive to Icasa on the high costs of data.
In June, Cell C and MTN took Icasa to court, challenging the Icasa’s deadline for the implementation of new data expiry rules.
The companies argued that the time the communications regulator has given the industry to comply with the new regulations is not reasonable.
Xolani Gwala sat down with the CEO of Icasa, Willington Ngwepe, to discuss various issues.
Firstly, we accept that the time that it has taken for us to come up with intervention around reduction of intervention costs of communication costs, is lengthier than it ought to have been.— Willington Ngwepe, CEO of Icasa
We then announced a three-pronged approach which is that firstly we will come up with immediate measures to protect consumers against unfair business practices.— Willington Ngwepe, CEO of Icasa
