Demand for paper straws is growing rapidly in SA
The demand for paper straws seems to be higher than usual, thanks to the awareness to eliminate single-use plastics that end up in the ocean killing marine animals.
Environmental movements have been advocating for the total ban of plastic straws and it seems most food outlets are heeding the call by using more of alternative food packaging methods.
Founder and managing director of Green Home, Catherine Morris says it is quite exciting that the world is finally talking about these environmental issues.
She says eleven years ago when she started her business she had to work hard to convince people to consider her products.
The straw campaign is an exciting one. It is amazing how people are suddenly aware of this one item and I am hoping it will spread to the rest of the food packaging because at the moment people say no to plastic straws but go on to use a plastic cup and a plastic bag.Catherine Morris, Founder and managing director of Green Home
But I think it is an amazing start how it has taken off.Catherine Morris, Founder and managing director of Green Home
