Rea Moeti sheds light on her Marikana massacre-inspired film 'Mma Moeketsi'

Weekend Breakfast host Phemelo Motene chats to award-winning writer, director and filmmaker Rea Moeti about the inspiration behind her Marikana massacre-inspired film 'Mma Moeketsi'.

Moeti says that the film is inspired by the events that unfolded at Marikana, and also the true story of the protagonist in the film.

It's inspired by the true story of Mma Moeketsi who is a real person. She is a lady who has worked for my family for the past 14 years

This is her story, this is our family story and it definitely inspired the film adds Moeti.

She says that the ending of the film leaves an unresolved feeling because that's exactly how people have been left.

There's a very fictional element around whether the character, Moeketsi, who's the son lives or dies.
