In the health feature, member of Community Medics Quinton Luck chats about the volunteer service, and how they are helping Capetonians with medical assistance.
Luck says that Community Medics was founded 20 years ago by two doctors living in Camps Bay.
These two doctors felt that the community needed a more immediate response to people in need of medical assistance he says.
A lot of the time, ambulance services get very busy and people tend to wait a long time to get help adds the volunteer.
We work with ambulance services, and we get to patients very quickly because we are community based.— Quinton Luck, member of Community Medics
I would get a call within my area (2km - 3km), then get there quickly to stabilise the patient says Luck.
We are purely a volunteer service. I don't get paid for it, and we survive on donations from the public and from various companies.— Quinton Luck, member of Community Medics
