Africa State of Mind: I owe my creativity to the African continent - Hotstix

Legendary South African musician Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse is an artist whose celebrated by the likes of Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder.

The prominent artist has held the golden mic for five decades, and his music is celebrated all over the world.

Even the father of the nation Nelson Mandela, describes Mabuse as his favourite musician.

He's truly an icon in the true sense of the word, changing the African narrative and unifying its people through the process.

Mabuse says that he wasn't aware that there was so much information about him.

He adds that his an African before he is South African.

I owe my creativity to the continent, and every other music that I hear will influence whatever I try to make in my music.

Burnout came through an interaction with my spirit says Mabuse.

The fact that I've travelled all over the continent, my music has always been interactive he adds.

Mabuse says that he's influenced by musicians from all over the continent like Nigerian artist Fela Kuti, and Zimbabwean musician Oliver Mtukudzi.

He adds that the song Burnout is a reflection of what the African continent can offer musically.

Mabuse says that he's amazed at how young of people react to his songs.

Everytime I perform this song, it always seems like a new song to me.
