Land expropriation

Eusebius McKaiser shares his views about Donald Trump's Tweet on South Africa and callers engage in heated debate.

US President Donald Trump has tweeted that he has asked his secretary of state to look into land expropriation and the killing of farmers in South Africa.

Eusebius McKaiser on the daily open line asked callers what they felt about a Tweet by the American president.

We may want to talk about a global racist in Donald Trump, I dont know how you feel about this particular tweet?

Eusebius McKaiser, Show Host.

This guy fatigues me, he drains me but on the other hand, he has got enormous power, arguably the most powerful job in the world as president of the United States.

Eusebius McKaiser, Show Host.

Given his title, given how much power, in years in the office of United States of America, we have got no choice but to engage this particular racist bigot.

Eusebius McKaiser, Show Host.

He adds that given the power that Trump poses, we have no choice but to speak about his Tweet.

Lerato a caller says the tweet has touched her so much.

How is it that American reporters get away with not doing their research properly? How is that they are allowed to go live on TV and say their ideas based on fake news. How is it acceptable?

Lerato, caller

She says that it makes her so angry because so much of what is happening in our country is misconstrued by the rest of the world because some American reporter decided not to do their research, not to read up and not to look at the history and where it comes from.

Just report on what they think they know and what they think they heard without really taking time to understand the dynamics of land reform in South Africa.

lerato , caller

Another caller, Kevin says the tweet is an old diplomatic tactic.

Whenever a US president gets into trouble, they always use the African continent as a diplomatic get out of jail free card.

Kevin, caller

Other callers called in and weighed on the Tweet by the US president.

Franchesko, says he is so glad that Trump called Ramaphosa exactly what he is.

He is a racist, he is the biggest racist this country has ever had, this land expropriation thing, is nothing more than TV and he is calling it what it is. And what Donald Trump is, you guys are fake news.

Franchesko, caller

Donald Trump is an excellent president. You guys are spreading fake news and you think that everybody else is as dumb as you.

Franchesko, caller

Caller Luke spoke regarding South Africa's trade agreement with the US.

At this point we benefit intensely from US aid and the Agoa Trade agreement and the Kaeto Institute has pointed out that a clause in the Agoa Trade agreement that states that if private property rights are not respected as will be the case if the Constitution is amended.

Luke, caller

Then we would lose our membership to that agreement and the US being the biggest market in the world, this is certainly something that Donald Trump and the US have a direct financial interest in.

Luke, caller

I don't think it is appropriate to just wave away US interest in us.

Luke, caller

McKaiser raised the issue that the tweet was inaccurate and reckless.

There are three factual statements in this statement and all three are factually false.

Eusebius McKaiser, Show Host.

He refers to Trump's factually incorrect claims about large-scale farm murders and government seizing white farms.

Watch McKaiser share his views on the Trump Tweet:
