John Maytham's three book reviews for this week...

Dead if You don't by Peter James

This is the 14th thriller in the Roy Grace series, taking place in the seaside resort of Brighton, in the south of England. It kicks off with a compulsive gambler and businessman attending a sports match with his son, with a bomb threat, a ransom and a kidnapping of the boy. There is a significant Albanian presence in Brighton, some good some not.

Mrs Fletcher by Tom Perrotta

This is Perotta's seventh book. Mrs Fletcher is a 46-year-old divorcee, director of the local senior centre in New England, who gets a text 'you are my MILF' and she has no idea what a MILF is. Checking up on it takes her to the internet and MILF pornography and she develops a full-blown porn addiction. She has a sensitive son who is struggling with his social life and connecting with women his age.

John says it is a novel that tackles the sexual entitlement so many men have. He adds that the author has a very light, deft satirical touch.

Robin by Dave Itzkoff

John says he thoroughly enjoyed the biography of Robin Williams. it is a lengthy and detailed book and is 'warts and all and not hagiographic. It deals with how Williams dealt with the difficulty of fame as well as his disease that was misdiagnosed.
