Offensive usernames are an issue for many online services and the general solution is to load a list of problematic words and not accept them if entered.
The catch is that quite a few surnames would qualify to be on that list and as you are dealing with a machine it is difficult to convince it otherwise.
The tweet has over 7 000 replies from others who share Weiner's difficulty including:
- Kyle Medick
- James Butt
- Ben Schmuck
- Phillip Sporn
- Matt Cummings
- Mike Dickman
- Nazi Paikidze-Barnes
- Jen Dick
- Paul Gay
- Angela Spampata
In the past, the issue affected everyone from the English town of Scunthorpe.
