'Food is being used by kids as a weapon against their parents...' - Nikki Bush

In the parenting feature, creative parenting expert Nikki Bush chats about how children use food as a form of control.

Bush says that food is being used by children as a weapon against their parents, and being used by parents as an ally in terms of compensation.

The top three food items that children aged 8 - 25 pester their parents for are cereal, fast foods, and energy drinks says Bush.

Children are actually taught to nag by marketers, and 70% of parents give into nagging.

Bush says that the yearly direct youth spend of R137 000 000 000 is influenced by children, and a lot of it goes to food.

She adds that parents have this mindset that they can keep their kids quiet if they give them what they want.

What we are discovering is that it's not just want you put into your kids mouths that's important. What you put into their hearts and heads is also very important.
