DA and UDM marriage over?

The Democratic Alliance (DA) and its coalition partners have made the first move in severing ties with the United Democratic Movement (UDM).

The DA and its coalition partners, which include the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP), Congress of the People (Cope) and the Freedom Front Plus, have written a letter to UDM leader Bantu Holomisa calling on the coalition partner's president to motivate why his party should remain part of the coalition agreement.

This is after the UDM voted against the coalition to oust DA's Jonathan Lawack as speaker in the Nelson Mandela Bay council followed by the ousting of Mayor Athol Trollip.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa DA Federal Chairperson James Selfe says it would appear that General Bantu Holomisa has more in common with the African National Congress (ANC) particularly in Nelson Mandela Bay.

It would appear that Mr Bobani having now been installed as what we regard as the illegal mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay seems to have some sort of hold over General Holomisa.

UDM Leader Bantu Holomisa also spoke to Bingwa and says you can hear that the DA continues to be arrogant in its way of dealing with matters of this nature.

You will recall that after Bobani and Trollip misunderstood each other, the DA said Bobani was corrupt, we said ok let's go and investigate.

And then after the investigation, we table the findings in the council and if Bobani is found guilty, we will take action.

He adds that the DA appointed forensic officers and introduced an interim report which did not mention Bobani.

I sent them a letter saying that I will not attend any coalition meeting until they apologise and withdraw all those serious allegations about Bobani.
