This week, South Africans were hit with the sad news that the country is in an economic recession.
Economic analyst Dwaine Van Vuuren says South Africa is the only country that is in a technical recession, which he says is very concerning.
Van Vuuren has done a study of the world's 44 largest economies tracked by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and found that South Africa is at the very bottom of the list in terms of growth.
So this is not just a one-off, it is a consistent underperformance, which obviously is quite disappointing.— Dwaine Van Vuuren, Economic analyst
Van Vuuren says we have to start asking questions, whether are we planning ahead for these kind of situations such as when the country was hit by load shedding and drought.

I think our administration needs to start realising in a modern economy like ours things like electricity, roads and dams - this stuff needs forward planning.— Dwaine Van Vuuren, Economic analyst
