Minister Pravin Gordhan to visit Rheinmetall Denel Munition plant on Friday

The eight workers who died on Monday following an explosion at the Rheinmetall Denel Munition depot, outside Somerset West were being remembered by friends and family.

A memorial service was held in Macassar on Thursday night at the St Joseph Anglican Church and another one held in Lwandle, Strand, for the two victims that lived there.

EWN reporter Kevin Brandt says that Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille attended the memorial service where she spoke about the spatial planning being a problem.

She indicated that she will engage with the minister of defence to see if there is not a plan to relocate this plant to somewhere else.

According to Brandt, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan will be visiting the Rheinmetall Denel Munition depot on Friday afternoon as well as Denel board chairperson Monhla Hlahla to assess the extent of the damage

Minister Gordhan will be here this afternoon to engage with some of the employees as well as some of the bereaved members.
