[LISTEN] ANCWL's Meokgo Matuba apologises to journalist over gun image

African National Congress Women's League Secretary-General Meokgo Matuba, has spoken exclusively to Eyewitness News journalist Clement Manyathela about allegations that she tried to intimidate Sunday Times journalist, Qaanitah Hunter.

Hunter had reported on a meeting Matuba attended with former president Jacob Zuma, secretary general Ace Magashule and former North West premier Supra Mahumapelo.

The group seemingly met at a Durban hotel last week.

When Hunter asked Matuba to confirm whether she was at that meeting, she denied it and sent the reporter a picture of a gun.

In the interview with Manyathela, Matuba apologises and says she did not send the image. She adds it was not her intention and she supports media freedom.

She still does not want to confirm or deny whether she was part of the meeting. She just wanted to talk about a gun image sent from her phone.

Clement Manyathela, EWN political reporter

She says there are several people that use her phone. She says she was not even aware that the picture was sent to Qaanitah Hunter until Qaanitah sent her a message responding to that picture and asking, is this meant for me?
