Like any other head of state Jacob Zuma is entitled to his full pension

Because South Africa is a country that is governed by a rule of law, former President Jacob Zuma will be paid almost R3 million by the state annually.

Senior political analyst, Dr David Monyae says there is no basis to deny Jacob Zuma anything because he was not found guilty of any wrongdoing and he was not impeached by Parliament. Therefore, he is entitled to these benefits as per the Constitution.

The decision for Jacob Zuma to receive his full pension money plus medical aid package was voted for by 197 MPs. Only 95 MPs voted against the motion tabled by ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu.

The fact remains that he is entitled to these benefits like all other previous head of states.

It is the duty of Parliament to make sure that it is regulated and it is done properly and also done by an independent commission.

According to Monyae, if it happens that Jacob Zuma dies whoever runs his estate will be paid 50% of his pension money from the state.

What is known for all sitting presidents, whether from the apartheid era or post-apartheid, they are all entitled to be protected by the state. They are given a certain portion of the money for their houses and they have a quiet number of benefits including access to SAA should they wish to travel anywhere in the world.
