Prasa CEO Sibusiso Sithole says they have committed to pay part of the R16 million to address issues of commuter safety in WC.

The Metrorail woes multiply daily as commuter safety is compromised by criminal elements.

A commuter died and eight others were injured when they were robbed and thrown off a moving train last Friday and another commuter died this week when a train was set alight.

Prasa CEO Sibusiso Sithole says Prasa and the transport ministry have commited to dealing with the situation in the Western Cape to ensure that a safe service is provided to the people.

We have committed ourselves to paying R16 million as part of a joint venture with the City of Cape Town and Western Cape government.

Sibusiso Sithole, Prasa CEO

I have recently sent a team from my office to engage with all the stakeholders and find each other in terms of finding a way forward. All that is required is to communicate that to the board and take appropriate decisions so that we can pay part of the R16 million.

Sibusiso Sithole, Prasa CEO

Sithole says they are looking at a number of solutions to keeping commuters safe which range from having more security personnel and the deployment of technology and involvement of passengers.
