'1000 children diagnosed with cancer in South Africa every year'

September is International Childhood Cancer Month and it was also known as the Gold Ribbon Month.

2018 marks 100 years since the birth of our country's greatest leader Nelson Mandela and in celebrating his centenary, Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (Choc) is encouraging all of us to continue his legacy of giving by giving hope to children with cancer and their families.

Speaking to Xolani Gwala, CEO at Choc Carl Queiros says the recorded statistics say that there are about 1000 children diagnosed with cancer a year.

Based on global statistics, we suspect that we are only capturing about half the children, so there is as many out there, who are either misdiagnosed or are late diagnosed.
