The rise and rise of “procurement” and the Chief Procurement Officer

Procurement involves the buying of appropriate (quality, quantity, etc.) goods or services at the best possible price.

It also includes factors such as delivery, handling and price variations.

A Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) is a company executive that manages sourcing, procurement and supply management.

The CPO will often negotiate contracts and ensure prompt delivery and payment.

The CPO leads the buying team and is responsible for the execution of all procurement policies and procedures.

It’s not uncommon for the CPO to report directly to a Director or to the Chief Executive Officer.

We interviewed Ian Russel, Chief Procurement Officer at Telkom.
