The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) is holding its 26th National Congress to elect new leadership from 18 to 21 October at Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg and who will be elected is the question.
The term of office of the current crop of ANCYL leaders expires in September.
Speaking to Africa Melane, ANCYL KZN secretary Thandoxulo Sabelo says he was approached to contest the position of the president of the youth league and did not volunteer.
I have accepted that I am willing to accept the nomination if I receive a nomination. Secondly, I believe that should I get elected, I will be working with the collective that will be elected.— Thandoxulo Sabelo, ANCYL KZN secretary
Because it won't only be the president that will be elected at that conference, it will be an entire national executive committee.— Thandoxulo Sabelo, ANCYL KZN secretary
He adds that if elected, he would be working with that committee and they will be implementing the mandate of the national congress that will be held later next month at the Nasrec Expo Centre.
He says what the youth of South Africa should be prioritising is the issue of unemployment amongst young people.
