Military veterans address educational support challenges

The Department of Military Veterans will not be accepting any new applications for education support next year.

They will, however, support existing education allocations.

Acting Director General of the Department of Military Veterans' Retired Lieutenant General Derrick Mgwebi says the present students who are supported by the department with regards to their studies, will continue to be supported.

The new applicants - and before the end of this month, we would be able to indicate the direction - but we are looking forward and trying to get solutions which would allow them to at least submit applications so that they can be supported going forward.

He adds that one area that could be a solution is to exploit the NSFAS reach for those that are going to tertiary institutions so that they can at least apply through that system.
