Software giant launches dual SIM smartphone for R999

Software giant Microsoft has launched the Lumia 430 Dual SIM smartphone in South Africa at a recommended retail price of R999.

The Lumia 430 sports a 4-inch screen, a 1,2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, a 2-megapixel main camera, a 0.3 megapixel front camera and 8GB of storage.

Scroll down to listen to our interview of Shaun du Randt, General Manager of Mobile Devices at Microsoft SA.

We also spoke to Technology and Business Adviser Simon Dingle about whether or not South Africans are spoilt for choice when it comes to buying cheap smartphones (and if the quality is worth it).

We’ve strived for a long time to get our smartphones below R1000 and we’re finally there. This is the fastest growing smartphone segment in South Africa.

Shaun du Randt, General Manager of Mobile Devices at Microsoft SA

It’s a phenomenal entry level smartphone. Microsoft is catching up slowly but surely. You won’t do much better than this phone for less than R1000.

Simon Dingle, Technology and Business Adviser
