Political economy analyst at Political Futures Consultancy, Daniel Silke says what is currently happening within the Democratic Alliance sends a confusing message.
Silke is responding to reports that DA leader Mmusi Maimane has allegedly nominated himself as the Western Cape Premier candidate to replace Helen Zille.
Maimane postponed a briefing for the party's premier candidate which was due to be made on Sunday.
Silke says perhaps Maimane believes that he can take the party to new heights at a national level.
The communication of this is that perhaps Maimane sees the writing on the wall that the DA won't be able to bring the ANC to below 50%, therefore, the position within the party remains the premier of the Western Cape.— Daniel Silke, Political Economy Analyst at Political Futures Consultancy
The communication that is sent out I think it is going to create a degree of confusion.— Daniel Silke, Political Economy Analyst at Political Futures Consultancy
Silke predicts that if Maimane goes ahead and becomes the premier of the Western Cape, John Steenhuisen could become Da's parliamentary leader based on his good performance in Parliament.
