Eskom says it's doing everything it can to avoid power outages
Eskom says while it cannot guarantee that there will be no load shedding, it will do everything in its power to keep the lights on.
The power utility has confirmed 10 of its power stations are running low on coal and have less than 3- weeks' supply left. Some have less than 10-days' worth in their reserves.
Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says they are the process of signing contracts to ensure coal supply.
We need on average about 1.3 million tons of coal per month so that we can stay afloat and build up the reserve that we need to have at our power stations and the second part of that is while that process is underway, we will complement that by transferring coal from Medupi power station to these power stations in Mpumalanga.Khulu Phasiwe, Eskom spokesperson
