'ANC should assist in state capture inquiry and those implicated should testify'
The Zondo commision of inquiry is currently underway with SA's major banks testifying and clarifying the decision to close bank accounts belonging to the Gupta family.
Two Cabinet ministers were implicated at the inquiry trying to persuade the banks to change their decisions to close the Guptas bank accounts.
The then ANC general secretary Gwede Mantashe was also implicated.
Political analyst, Professor Somadoda Fikeni says the ANC should state clearly that they will assist the commission and whoever is implicated should go and tell their version of the story.
In that way, they will be saying that we are supporting this process but at the same time not every one of us was involved and those involved should account for their actions.Professor Somadoda Fikeni, Political analyst
Fikeni justified Mantashe's involvement with the banks saying that the position he held was the most awkward and difficult one during Zuma's tenure.
You will remember that when the Guptas landed at the air force space, Mantashe was the first one to express outrage and some days later he was singing a different tune.Professor Somadoda Fikeni, Political analyst
There seems to have been a duality of perspectives within Mantashe where he would say what he believed and express what he was unhappy with but at the same time be forced to do things.Professor Somadoda Fikeni, Political analyst
