The Democratic Alliance has named Alan Winde as the Premier of the Western Cape. Winde is currently the MEC for Economic Opportunities in the Western Cape.
DA's national spokesperson Solly Malatsi says the party's federal executive ratified Winde as the party's choice on Tuesday evening when it met in Cape Town.
Malatsi rubbished reports that Mmusi Maimane was also in the running of the Western Cape premiership saying it is false reporting.
There has been incorrect reporting it. Maimane was never in the running whatsoever for the premiership of the Western Cape.— Solly Malatsi, DA National spokesperson
He was approached to consider availing himself but the reports were as if there's been a formal nomination or voluntary nomination on his part when there wasn't.— Solly Malatsi, DA National spokesperson
Malatsi says Maimane explained to FedEx that he had been approached but after careful consideration, he won't be honouring the approach.
The primary reason for him not to consider that request is that he remains committed to driving our national project which is to "Build one South Africa for all" and he did not want to be distracted by additional responsibilities that could divert his time and effort.— Solly Malatsi, DA National spokesperson
