Four hikers mugged on Table Mountain, suspects arrested

At least three suspects have been arrested in connection to a mugging in Table Mountain National Park on Thursday morning.

Four hikers were mugged along the Newlands Ravine, according to the Table Mountain Watch (TMW).

TMW spokesperson André van Schalkwyk says they are waiting on police to confirm that the suspects were linked to the incident.

It's understood that at least one of the victims was hospitalised.

Van Schalkwyk says there have been a number of incidents at the top of Newlands Ravine in the past, as recently as September.

He commended the joint efforts between police, SanParks officials, city law enforcement and local community groups.

Van Schalkwyk warns that the upcoming summer season may see an upsurge in these type of incidents.

These guys were caught in the suburbs running away and we need to make that link and positively identify them

There was some seriousness in those attacks [when asked if the victims were stabbed].
