Eskom does offer payment terms for erroneous electricity bills

Following a number of complaints from pensioners who were incorrectly billed for electricity, CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies speaks to Eskom to clarify the matter.

The pensioners allege that Eskom is not willing to assist in this matter and or offer them payment terms that they can afford.

Eskom customer relations manager, David Ockhuis, says erroneous electricity bills do happen and can be rectified.

Where customers have been underestimated and receive a very high bill we do offer payments arrangements.

David Ockhuis, Eskom Customer Relations Manager

We normally try to do that over the same period that we have inconvenienced the customer.

David Ockhuis, Eskom Customer Relations Manager

Ockhuis acknowledges that call centre agents sometimes give wrong information because this is an outsourced service. He says he will follow it up to ensure that the right message is distributed to customers.
