CT's Theatre on the Bay reopens after renovations, boasting new drama school

The newly renovated Theatre on the Bay opened its doors on Monday 1 October.

The iconic Cape Town theatre closed its doors April to be refurbished for its 30th anniversary.

Theatre veteran and owner, Pieter Toerien, says the renovations have been known as the Heritage Project.

Toerien says he aims to leave a legacy behind through this project, which will see the introduction of a new accredited drama school in 2019.

The local stage legend described his role in the project and what to look forward to from the venue as it reopens.

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is currently showing at the Theatre on the Bay to kick off what will be a jam-packed season of productions.

It was 30 years old, and I thought it was time that we had a facelift - her, not me.

The noise and the dust nearly drove me crazy... It's a building I love, it's a building I know every inch of.

The ceiling has dropped a bit. There's another complete floor over the auditorium to make a drama school on top - so that's the real legacy.
