Anti-gang unit will remain in CT communities as long as needed, says Saps
Saps says the anti-gang unit deployed in gang-ridden Cape Flats communities will remain there for as long as criminality persists.
Members of the Anti-Gang Intervention Unit have been working in Hanover Park and Lavender Hill, reports EWN's Kevin Brandt.
Brigadier Novella Potelwa has not committed to a specific time frame for which the unit will operate.
The Cape Flats has seen various demonstrations where residents were demanding better policing to deal with the scourge of gang violence.
However, residents are concerned that once the intervention unit leaves the community that crime will pick up again.
Brigadier Novella Potelwa indicated that for as long as the need for policing in certain high-risk communities persists, this unit will be there.Kevin Brandt, EWN reporter
