The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service (WPBTS) has appealed to new and regular blood donors who meet the basic criteria to come and donate blood.
Blood stocks in the Western Cape remain at a critically low level.
WPBTS public relations officer, Michelle Vermeulen, says blood types O+, O-, A+ and B+ are critically low.
The service only has one day's worth of blood stocks, Vermeulen adds.
To qualify as a blood donor you must:
- be between the age of 16 and 65
- weigh over 50kg
- be in good general health
- lead a safe sexual lifestyle
Visit the WPBTS website to learn more.
Alternatively, SMS “Blood” to 33507 and WPBTS will call you back.
Donors can also call (021) 507 6300 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
