Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi clears the air on the shortage of ARVS in clinics.

Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi says there are a number of ARVs being used and the one that is in short supply is part of the 2nd and third line ARVs.

He says that the problem is the pills contain Lamivudine.

Speaking to Joanne Joseph, Dr Motsoeldi says the one dose pill is in stock and patients will get their medication at clinics.

The other ARVs which are used by 90% of the patients in the country are in stock.

The minister further states that they were informed six weeks ago about the problem of getting the ingredients from China.

He says that they have made other means of getting the drug from India and 215 000 packages have been supplied already.
