This local comic strip is spreading breast cancer awareness online

A local comic strip spreading breast cancer awareness online has been a hit with South African women this year.

The series, called Girl Talk, is a project by NGO the Pink Drive, cartoon writer Deni Brown and illustrator Jesse Breytenbach.

Pink Drive is a breast cancer education and fundraising NGO, which uses mobile trucks to provide both education and free mammograms various communities.

Brown says the aim of the comic is to spread the message without being grim, in a lighter and more hopeful way.

She created the characters Thuli and Jo earlier this year and approached the NGO about using them to help raise awareness on social media.

Brown, who was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago, says her personal experience influenced her work.

The comic series is now complete and Brown says that the next goal is to have hard copies printed and distributed all over the Continent starting next year.

The Pink Drive is an NGO that takes medical assistance to people in outlandish areas.

They go to people who don't have medical aid, ladies who don't have access to social media to get information on breast cancer and to educate themselves on it.

They use this enormous pink bus that they take.

We've had great feedback.
